Big Things Can Come In Small Packages
I was catching up with a college buddy the other day whom I haven’t seen in a while, and we were talking about our post-college (newly mature) lives, and he was telling me about a new business he was starting up. He told me that being a start-up company he would only have a limited number of resources but wanted some way to operate like a much larger company. A light bulb went off in my head and made me realize that maybe I could be of some help based on my own newly-gained work experience at Century Interactive.
So, this is where I jumped at the chance to tell my entrepreneurial friend about the ways call tracking and web tracking can help him achieve his goal of gaining an edge over other start-up companies trying to make a name for themselves. By this point, I could tell there was a good amount of confusion in his face when I mentioned call tracking, so I tried to make a little more sense of it for him:
- Inbound Call Tracking- As a small business every single potential client you get goes a long way so why not make sure you’re not letting any leads slip away? Inbound call tracking gives you the ability to view virtually all aspects of an incoming call including, length, time, location, and the advertisement associated with it. This lets you know which of your ads are generating leads and which ones are just burning money. A small business depends on getting as much client/advertising information as possible and inbound call tracking gets this done.
At this time, I had my friend’s undivided attention, so I thought why not keep on going from my knowledge bank and see what else sparks his interest (at least I knew I wasn’t talking to a wall.)
- Outbound Call tracking- Now I know that in any business, big or small, knowing how effective you are when contacting potential clients is HUGE. Even if you just have a few people working under you in a small company, you want to know that they’re optimizing their ability to retain old clients and reel in new ones. With the ability to attach phones codes to each employee, you can monitor how well they are communicating with clients and look at areas where they can improve. Running a business is about learning from your mistakes and adapting to make sure it doesn’t happen again in the future. How else will you learn what not to do on a call unless you can listen in?
It was around this moment when I noticed him start to sloppily jot down notes on wrinkled up napkins as if he were still back in our college economics class. He asked me what else we did here at Century Interactive and that’s when I brought up website tracking.
- Website tracking- Even most small businesses today have some sort of website up where people can get an idea of the services provided. Understanding a client’s mentality when surfing the web can give you a relatively solid background of what aspect of your company they’re interested in. With web tracking, companies can see what pages on their site clients visited, the amount of time they spent on each page and whether a call was made from their web session. Another benefit is knowing the keywords they type in a search engine that led them to your site. This gives you a good chunk of knowledge about your customer market and what they’re interested in when visiting your site.
By now my friend ran out of napkins for scribbling and felt he had a pretty good understanding of what call tracking and website tracking were and how these tools could help his small company take off the ground. The main lesson I hope he took away was that he didn’t have to let the size of his company dictate the productivity of it.
Call tracking and web tracking enable any size company to monitor their ad efficiency/customer info, and this in turn helps level the playing field for the little guys. So it’s always important to remember that with the right tools at your fingertips such as call tracking /website tracking, big things CAN come in small packages or in this case small businesses!
